Throughout the presidential race, Donald Trump and his campaign and aides have been trying to depict former vice president Joe Biden as slow or having a diminishing mental capacity. Among those people is former White House stenographer Mike McCormick, who has since claimed the former vice president is no longer as quick as he used to be.
In an interview this week, McCormick described Biden as not being the same ever since he left the White House in 2017 when Trump was sworn in. Biden served two terms as vice president alongside Barack Obama. Speaking to the Washington Free Press Beacon, McCormick, who is pro-Trump and has written a book about Biden titled “Joe Biden Unauthorized: the 2020 Crackup of the Democratic Party,” said, “It’s a complete difference from what he was in 2017. He’s lost a step and he doesn’t seem to have the same mental acuity as he did four years ago.”
“He doesn’t have the energy, he doesn’t have the pace of his speaking. He’s a different guy,” added McCormick. Even after leaving his post as White House stenographer in 2018, McCormick remains an avid supporter of Trump.
McCormick, who also served under the Obama-Biden administration, said that the former vice president relies too much on teleprompted spiels and has a tendency to go off-script from what is written.
Biden has recently responded to McCormick’s remarks after being asked about it during his visit to Pennsylvania. The Democratic challenger referenced the appearance at West Point back in June where Trump appeared to be having trouble walking down a ramp. Biden also said that he would not be running unless he was healthy enough and added that he has been working out.
Following the revelations in Bob Woodward’s book about Trump, Biden blasted the president during his remarks in Michigan, accusing Trump of betraying the American people. In Woodward’s book, Trump reportedly knew about the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic early on, yet chose to downplay it out of concern that it would create panic.
“He knew, and he purposefully played it down. Worse, he lied to the American people, and while this deadly disease ripped through our nation, he failed to do his job — on purpose,” said Biden.
